Algarve (Alvor) Kitesurfen in Portugal – Die Algarve bildet den südlichen Küstenabschnitt Portugals zur Atlantikküste. Sie ist bekannt für ihre schönen Strände unterhalb der imposanten und schroffen Kalksandsteinfelsen. Die sonnenreichste Region Europas wird in den Sommermonaten vom portugiesischen Nortada nahezu täglich mit Wind zum Kitesurfen versorgt.

Die touristisch hervorragend erschlossene Algarve erstreckt sich über einen 155 Kilometer langen Küstenabschnitt im Süden Portugals an der Atlantikküste zwischen der spanischen Grenze im Osten und dem Cabo Sao Vicente im Westen. Zwischen der Stadt Lagos und dem Fischerdorf Alvor liegt die zwei Quadratkilometer große Lagune Ria de Alvor. Obwohl sie als Salzmarsch ein Naturschutzgebiet ist und vielen Vogelarten als Rückzugsort dient, ist das Kitesurfen auf dieser Lagune offiziell erlaubt.

Die Lagoa de Alvor ist das einzige wirklich gut funktionierende Flachwasserstehrevier an der Algarve, da man hier den ablandigen Nortadawind gefahrlos nutzen kann, ohne die Angst haben zu müssen, beim Kitesurfen auf das offene Meer abzutreiben. Einstiege in die Lagune findet man bei Alvor im Osten und im Westen am Kitebeach Valle da Lama.

Wind und Klima an der Algarve

An der Algarve herrscht ganzjährig ein mildes Klima. In den Sommermonaten erreichen die Temperaturen bis zu 30 Grad Celsius. Die Zahl der Sonnenstunden klettert im Schnitt auf über zwölf pro Tag, was die Region zu einer der Sonnenreichsten in Europa macht. Regen fällt von Juni bis August an nur einem Tag im Monat. Auch im Winter liegen die Temperaturen noch bei 15 Grad Celsius, wobei mit durchschnittlich zehn Regentagen zu rechnen ist.

Die Wassertemperatur des Atlantiks steigt im Hochsommer jedoch nur auf erfrischende 18 bis 20 Grad Celsius. Auch in der Lagune von Alvor wird das Wasser im Sommer nicht wesentlich wärmer, da ein täglicher Austausch des Wassers mit dem Atlantik aufgrund der Gezeiten stattfindet. Zum Kitesurfen in Alvor und im offenen Atlantik empfehlen wir daher mindestens einen Shorty zu tragen. Der thermische Sommerwind Nortada baut sich ab mittags langsam auf und bietet ab nachmittags gute besonders an der Lagune von Alvor beste Bedingungen zu Kitesurfen. Durch das Monchiquegebirge wird der Nortada im Rahmen eines Düseneffektes zusätzlich beschleunigt, so dass er abends regelmäßig die 25 Knoten-Marke erreicht.

Der Nortada weht aus westnordwestlicher bis nordnordwestlicher Richtung. Der teils böige Wind trifft dabei direkt vom Land auf die Lagune von Alvor und weht am Kitebeach Valle da Lama sideshore bis sideonshore von links, am Kitebeach Alvor auflandig. Die Vor- und Nachsaison zum Kitesurfen an der Lagoa de Alvor bilden die Monate Mai und September. Hier kann der Nortada mit einer etwa 50 prozentigen Wahrscheinlichkeit kitebare Bedingungen schaffen. Im Hochsommer von Juni bis August liegt die Windwahrscheinlichkeit bei 70 Prozent über vier Beaufort. Die beste Reisezeit zum Kitesurfen und für Kitereisen nach Alvor an der portugiesischen Algarve ist von Juni bis August.
